A clear image prompt makes your visual idea easier to evaluate. Build the description around what matters most, then add a few supporting details. You do not need a long paragraph for every picture; a short, specific brief is a useful place to begin.
Name the person, object, animal, or scene that should be the focus. Explain whether you want a close-up, a full-body view, or a wider composition. Add the position of important objects and leave space for anything you plan to add later. This helps turn a broad idea into a picture you can judge against a clear brief.
“A glass of lemonade with a lemon slice on a white café table, close-up at eye level, glass on the right, empty space on the left, soft afternoon light, fresh editorial photography.”
If the composition feels crowded, remove a secondary object or simplify the setting before changing the whole prompt. Keep the subject recognizable at the size where you plan to use the image.
Choose a visual treatment such as watercolor illustration, studio photography, or soft 3D artwork. Add lighting and a limited color palette if they matter to the project. Several conflicting styles can make the direction harder to follow, so decide which qualities are essential before adding decorative instructions.
“A curious red fox sitting beside a small fern, rounded shapes, warm terracotta and sage palette, textured storybook illustration, simple cream background, square composition.”
Use the result to decide what to keep. For the next version, change the palette, viewpoint, or background separately so you can compare the effect of each revision.
If a picture needs words, quote the exact phrase and describe its placement. Short text is easier to inspect than a page of tiny labels. Check lettering, faces, hands, and repeated objects at full size before publishing. Requesting a detail does not guarantee that every part of it will be reproduced correctly.
For a layout that needs precise typography, you can leave empty space in the generated artwork and add final wording in your usual design tool. When an existing picture needs one targeted change, switch to the AI image editor and specify the features you want to preserve.
Use the Chat GPT image generator to explore an illustration, a visual concept, or a social graphic. Match the canvas to the destination and review the result as a draft before deciding how to use it.
Describe a character’s appearance, pose, expression, and setting. For a series, keep a written style brief and review each result for consistency. Reusing the same description can guide the next image, but it does not lock every detail or guarantee an identical character across separate creations.
Explore a background, a lighting setup, or a composition before a larger design project. Use the generated picture to communicate a direction. If it represents a real product, compare shapes, labels, proportions, and colors with the actual item before using the artwork in a public listing or campaign.
Choose square for a centered post, portrait for taller artwork, or landscape for a wide header concept. Leave room around the subject for cropping and later captions. For more about model choices and the studio’s other creative tasks, explore the ChatGPT Images 2.6 guide.

Creating images requires credits. A Standard text-only image costs 8 credits and Detailed costs 12. Choose a monthly plan, a yearly plan, or a one-time credit pack. The exact total is shown before creating; a ChatGPT subscription does not include credits here.
Square images are 1024 × 1024 pixels, portrait images are 1024 × 1536, and landscape images are 1536 × 1024. Still-image downloads are PNG files. Standard and Detailed change quality, while the canvas determines these dimensions.
Yes. Add a PNG, JPEG, or WebP reference up to 10 MB and explain the result you want. Reference-based still-image creation uses the editing rate: 14 credits for Standard or 18 for Detailed. For a specific change to an existing picture, use the Edit image tab.
You can request text by placing the exact wording in quotation marks and describing where it should appear. Review every letter, spacing, and punctuation mark in the result. Generated text can contain mistakes, especially when several labels or small captions are requested.
Compare the result with your prompt and change one instruction at a time. Try a clearer subject, simpler background, or more precise composition. Failed generation tasks receive automatic credit refunds; a completed image that you want to revise is not the same as a failed task.
Use outputs subject to our terms and applicable rights. Check depicted people, trademarks, product details, and any reference-image permissions before publishing. Review the finished file yourself; a generated concept may need further editing for its intended use.
A few words. A little magic. All yours.
